What is Qlik?

Qlik is the creators of Business Intelligence software specialising in data visualisation, executive dashboads and self-service business intelligence products. Qlik is regularly rated by analysts firm Gartner as one of the leading pieces of business intelligence software. Qlik has two main products, QlikView and Qlik Sense. Both principal products run of Qlik’s proprietary data engine, which connects to data stores and holds data in memory. This enables users to apply visualisations and manipulate dashboards through a drag-and-drop interface, rather than having to write code to manipulate data. Due to its ease of use and implementation, Qlik is often used deployed by individual business departments rather than as part of a centralised IT project.

Qlik Sense can be deployed on premises or in the cloud. Qlik Sense supports free-form analytics and enables users to build data and web applications through API connections.

What is QlikView?

QlikView is a Business Intelligence platform or BI platform that provides self-service Business Intelligence for all users within an organisation. At the core of QlikView is Qlik’s patented software engine. QlikView compresses data and holds in it memory, making it available for immediate analysis by multiple users. For data sets too large to achieve this, QlikView connects directly to the data source. QlikView is for guided analytics, whereas Qlik Sense is for self-service visualisations.

What is Qlik Sense Enterprise?

There’s also guided analytics to align users to a standard business process or workflow, embedded analytics to enhance websites and applications and customer analytic applications to support specific business processes or use cases. Qlik Sense Enterprise includes the Qlik Analytics Platform.

What is Qlik Analytics Platform?

The Qlik Analytics Platform is a package that provides developers and OEM partners with the ability to embed Qlik’s visual analytics capabilities into any application through web mashups or by embedding into custom applications. It includes the QIX analytics engine and the full suite of product APIs and SDKs.

What is Qlik Sense Cloud?

Qlik Sense Cloud is an online, hosted version of Qlik Sense that allows users to create and share Qlik Sense apps swiftly and efficiently. You can collaborate with other users to make data discoveries together while accessing the cloud and apps from any device, including mobiles. Qlik Sense Cloud has free-to-use and paid-for tiers of access.

What is Qlik Sense Desktop?

Qlik Sense Desktop is a Windows application that gives individuals the opportunity to use Qlik Sense and create personalised, interactive data visualisations, reports and dashboards from multiple data sources. This is done in the most user-friendly, drag-and-drop fashion, meaning even the most inexperienced users can utilise the power of Qlik. To use it requires Qlik Sense Enterprise server credentials or a QlikID, which comes from your Qlik Cloud account.

What is Qlik Sense Mobile?

The Qlik Sense Mobile app is an application that can be installed on an iOS device. When connected to a Qlik Sense Enterprise server, individuals can download Qlik Sense apps and then view those apps offline.

How do you collaborate in Qlik Sense?

Qlik Sense has been developed with collaboration in mind and provides tools to help create a common understanding to support decisions and influence others.

Once you have shared an app with other users, they can explore your app on a range of devices. They can make their own selections in the data visualisations in the app and ultimately create their own sheets and visualisations to make further discoveries.

You can use the data storytelling feature to build a narrative around the data and emphasise elements of it to create convincing arguments that support you and your stakeholders in your decisions. You can add stylistic elements and comments to the slides and snapshots and organise them into a story for communication with others. The snapshots in your story retains the data from the date and time the story was created but you are not limited to history; you can quickly get to the live versions for further analysis before exporting and printing functions let you share sheets and visualisations in different common formats.

Qlik DataMarket is a Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) cloud offering with single-click access to a vast collection of valuable, up-to-date and ready-for-use data from external sources from right within Qlik products. Qlik users benefit from a comprehensive library of data made accessible from directly within Qlik Sense and QlikView. Qlik DataMarket gives users the ability to easily enrich their own data with external sources leading to deeper insight.

What type of data is available on Qlik DataMarket?

Qlik offers a number of packages of data. The Essentials Package which holds a broad range of data that applies across any industry and function. Ranging from currency exchange rates and price indexes to weather and demographics data, this offering meets many of the most common business needs and use cases for external data for a low, fixed subscription fee.

Qlik DataMarket also offers more specialised data package targeted specifically at certain industries, functions and use cases. Currently this include World Weather (40+ weather indicators for 2800+ cities) and World Currencies (daily exchanges rates for 160+ currencies).
